SARA
MOON - THE YAHOO GROUP STORY
During the years of Bidjan's absense the the Sara Moon Yahoo Group came together to try to piece
together the mystery that surrounded this remarkable artist. With nothing much of anything to go on
rumour and conjecture grew. The results, in the light of new-found reality, vary from the bazarre to
the frighteningly accurate. Read the best bits for yourself ...

"Carol Gander" You are all aware of the frustration we have felt at the lack of information on internet despite persistent searching. I decided to do some lateral thinking here and concluded that while having a clairvoyant reading today, I would ask a few pertinent questions regarding Sara Moon. I know that not all of you will agree with what I have done - that does not bother me, it is your prerogative. I will say this - I have seen this clairvoyant many times in past years and found her to be remarkably accurate. She is a young mother in her 30's who I will only identify as "D". I have been told that Sara Moon is indeed an Iranian man now aged 72 but looks mid 60's in age - a very passionate and handsome man. His real name was not available. He lives in a beautiful old villa in a small German town, - a place that will become a gallery in the future, the name of which will be found at the bottom of the second well known painting he did. It is of a lady with long dark hair and gorgeous brown eyes. A kind of painting that really draws you to it. She was adamant that if I saw that picture, I would know. Her name is actually the name of the town that he lived in. It is a pretty name. But then - it might be pretty in his language - according to `D'. He has gone back to the town where he started. She says "as soon as you get that name, you will have all the information". That town has all the information about him. He used the name Sara Moon which is that of a `guide' who has channelled through him. He does not want to be located. His last commercial painting was done in 1993. When asked about the fire which was supposed to have destroyed the collection of originals `D' told me that this was deliberately staged and the collection is currently in his possession housed in a vault. There was a building burned but it did not contain the paintings. Some years ago he was nearly murdered for the value of the paintings which prompted his action to instigate staging the fire. There is only one painting he gave to a woman who also nearly met an untimely death due to the perceived value of the painting. He still owns the paintings. Copies of his paintings will be re-released, but at his request - not until after his death. Although he still paints, it is only in a private capacity - for his own enjoyment. When questioned about the reasons for the Dutch needlecraft firm flatly refusing to give any details to those who have questioned them `D' says that they had never obtained the rights to use the designs in cross stitch and they rather wish we would drop in a hole and stop asking embarrassing questions. They have no information to give anyway. He did not attend the Christine Rosamond School of Art in California, I was not told where he trained. Scandecor will, with a bit of persuasion help supply the information. There was no scandal in his past, he found with his pictures he was just hassled by people and just got tired of being hassled. When asked how many prints are involved, `D' said there are "dozens" - 48 that are very well known and another 35 that are hidden away. We will get our answers though. Scandecor was the last firm to market his prints. Make of this what you will, Happy Christmas to you all, Sincerely, Carol (NZ) MESSAGE 619 From:
"Nyhuus, Torill" Hi Eve I must admit I know just a little more than I have told all of you. I meant to keep the news until I know something more, but can't wait. I have on phone talked to a woman here in Sweden, she is production manager for an old poster company here in Sweden. She told me that she has met Sara Moon several times on posters fairs in Europe. The artist Sara Moon is a man, he lives in Germany, is still alive. But she will not tell any details, I think she is not allowed to tell who he is, she said something about that she had to ask a colleague in Germany what she was allowed to tell first. I have written a long letter to him and sent to her, and she has promised me to try to give it to him next time she goes to Germany on a fair (if she meet him again). She will let me know what happens. Her company printed the Sara Moon posters that were sold in Sweden around 1970-1975 and she has been working there since then. She is not interested in any new production of Sara Moon, she said that it will not sell now. She thinks they have copyright for ca 40 different pictures. So while we are waiting, maybe we should have a poll and tell how many prints/posters we would like to buy to regular price if they start to produce them again, maybe I can make her change her mind! She lives just 1 hour drive from me, so I hope to learn to know her so well so I can ask her out for lunch one day in the future! The world is so big and so little, I have been searching on Internet for such a long time and probably I will find all information so close! As I have got this opportunity I hope you all will keep out and not try to disturb it. If the firm get a number of letters from individual group members, it may only serve to cause annoyance and reduce chances of getting ANY info. Please respect my wishes. I will handle it in the manner I see fit. (So I will not tell you the name of the firm or production manager). I will tell more as soon as I hear from her again, but maybe it will take months, so be patience. Torill in Sweden MESSAGE 646 From:
"Nyhuus, Torill" Hi group members! It is now time to tell the group members of the latest news. I have been in contact with the Production Manager here in Sweden (by phone yesterday). She has been a trip to Germany but didn't had time to take care of my letter to "Sara Moon". She will go back again in May and hopefully get it delivered. She is prepared to look at the issue of reprinting SM prints and to discuss it with her college in Germany . However, all is not straightforward. I am unclear on the copyright issue but have been told: *
The original plates have been destroyed. I need feedback at this point from all egroup members who have the facility to retail prints. I need to know: *
Who has the facility to retail prints? This is a situation where we are being asked to prove our convictions by purchasing in bulk. The print firm feel the SM prints are very much a 70's fad and would not now sell with the popularity that was evident in the 70's. They are not prepared to take the risk without having a ready market available. Torill MESSAGE 744 From:
"Nyhuus, Torill" Hi! Those of you who have joined the group after Mar 17 should read (619) first to understand what I am talking about here: The production manager should go back to Germany to attend a poster fair, I don't know how long she should stay there. I mailed her a few days ago, but haven't got any answer. I think answering me has a very low priority on her "to-do-today"-list. She sounds very busy when I phone her, so I don't want to do that very often. There is no production of prints now. The prints/posters are seldom seen in Sweden, I have looked in second hand shops and flea markets here for year. I am born in Norway but since 1969 living 20 km from downtown Stockholm in Sweden … Torill in Sweden MESSAGE 1467 - Mainly for UK Residents and visitors From:
"Carol Veale" Hello all! I have just had a weekend away in Blackpool. You will never guess what happened! Whilst there we stayed in a small hotel and in a downstairs corridor, which led to the back car park/yard were 4 framed Sara Moon prints and in the room we started out in were another 3! (We moved for a sea view!) Just there on the walls! Carol :~) MESSAGE 1470 - Mainly for UK Residents and visitors From:
"M C" Hi Carol I don't know what part of England you come from but did you know that there is a pub in Birmingham called Sara Moon. I am told that there are just Sara Moon prints on the walls. Some time last year, I did phone the manager to see if I could get any information on the artist, but was told that the pub had just been taken over from another Brewery and therefore was unable to help me. One day I will go and visit it for myself. Where abouts in Enland do you come from? Marilyn MESSAGE 1482 From:
eggtimer … I went to see a man who sells prints and also has a workshop framing prints and pictures … He says he was told 'Sara Moon' was not a woman but a man, he was Polish and his surname unpronounceable so he used 'Sara Moon'. There you are more intrigue … MESSAGE 1493 From:
"doug" D=A and you have saramoon mystery solved sara moon is Rosamond. Hope no one comes to kill me for exposing this. MESSAGE 1499 From:
"Joseph Bruch" Sara Moon is NOT Rosamond, It is another name for the artist Lou Chanet, and was used when the girls were created. Joseph MESSAGE 1634 From:
"rschur71" Just by coincidence I came across the Sara Moon prints you are selling. I just wanted to correct something: The artist who painted Sara Moon was a Iranian gentleman living (still) in Germany. I was the creator of the name and had commission Bijan to paint Sara Moon. Later Bijan painted for Verkerke in Holland and the style went astray from what my original intention was. Just thought it would interest you. Paul Schmidt By the way: Christine was still created under my supervision and painted in Germany. MESSAGE 1639 From:
"rschur71" Hi all! Just wanted to clarify that I did not write the message posted! (1634 above) I copied an email sent to me from the guy who commissioned Bijan and created the name Sara Moon. I don't know the answers to the questions your asking but will ask the man who sent the email. I hope he will reply! Rhonda MESSAGE 1967 From:

This evening I saw a Sara Moon and Lou Chanet exhibition print on sale at ebay. I've heard that Lou and Sara could be the same people so I went on the Internet to see if I could find some prints by Lou Chanel. There is a place called Beechwood Gallery that sells all kind of prints by different artist. www.beechwoodgroup.co.uk/catelog/catalog.htm They have two prints by him and they look exactly like the Sara prints. I'd appreciate it if you would check them out and tell me what you think. I tried to forward these prints from the Gallery but they wouldn't go through. The list of all their prints is very long so for a quick find, scroll down to a little beyond half way. Jan

"Karl Swenson" <k_swenson@yahoo.com> ... I was perusing an art stand at the Napa Flea Market. The stand owner had two very pricey prints. As we talked, while I tried to wring a few dollars out of my wife, he relayed to me this tale: Sara
Moon was a woman, of eastern descent. She had a factory in (I beleive)
India, which caught fire and destroyed a large portion of Karl MESSAGE 1987 From:

was sent an email by a lady who visited my website -(most definatly
by the same lady in question), and well - i have to say it got me
going.... it really did. ( i was phoning the BBC and allsorts of madness).
I was highly sceptical ( maybe thats a product of decades of nothing
, you become very cynical and almost detective like in your approach
to every scrap of anything and analyse it from every angle don`t you
find?) :) Anyways, this is what she wrote to me ... Subject

Your article on Sara Moon
Hello - I was most interested in reading your article on Sara Moon. My son collects Sara Moon and I typed in Sara Moon to see if I could read anything of interest about her. I must tell you that in 1969 when I was 30 years old, I was watching a television rogramme - it must have been either BBC1 or ITV at that time - when Sara Moon herself was being interviewed! I can remember the scenario to this day, but not if it was mentioned if that was her real name. She certainly did exist, and she was a very beautiful woman - around 40 then - and had lovely blonde curly hair (now that I think of it, so lovely was the hair it could have been a wig). She had beautiful blue eyes; a perfect small nose; slim figure, and around 5' 10" in height. In fact, she could have been a Sara Moon painting. Also, she actually did a painting on the programme too. I couldn't wait to tell you this. I wonder if this programme could still be found in the television archives? I am 63 now and don't have the get-up-and-go to find out now. This is sent to you with the promise that it is entirely fact. All the best. Margaret. MESSAGE 1991 From:
"wmcintosh2003" ... These are the replies I've recieved so far, time to take another turn in the maze. I am sorry to inform you that I have checked the BBC's comprehensive database but have been unable to find any details regarding a programme broadcast in 1969 featuring Sara Moon. Can I suggest that you contact the British Film Institute (BFI), formerly the National Film and Television Archive, which holds some BBC television output, including all programmes transmitted since August 1990. These are not available for sale, hire or loan but viewings may be arranged for bona fide research and study purposes for a small fee. You can contact them at the following address: British
